The spectacular blue diamond fetched a record price of 48,634,000 Swiss Franks (48.4milion USD, hammer price including buyer's premium) in the Sotheby's Geneva Sale on Wednesday November 4th, 2015.
The Blue Moon was unearthed from the Cullinan mine in January 2014, a mine that unearthed significant gems in the past. The rough crystal weighed 29.62ct. The Blue Moon is one of the few important diamonds that have been tracked precisely from the mines to the cutter.
The diamond was inspected by Kash Diamonds professional Gemologists and staff. We found the diamond to have an exceptional blue hue and saturation. As such, the Blue Moon Diamond is in our opinion one of the most important, largest blue diamonds ever unearthed and is one of the rarest gems in the world.
Another important diamond sold at Geneva was "The Sweet Josephine", an important 16.08 carats Vivid Pink Diamond, VVS2 clarity. The diamond was sold for a record price of 28.725 million Swiss Franc ($28.5 million USD, hammer price including buyer's premium) at Christie's auction on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2015.
